It is a hard moment. Take a breath. Inspectors note pests all the time, and the goal now is to fix the cause and show you did.

What do inspection results mean?

The state's inspection search page says results show conditions at the time of the visit. They are public, and they update nightly. That is why a quick, documented fix matters.

What should you do first?

  1. Ask the inspector what they saw, and where.

  2. Fix what you can right away. Clean, clear clutter, and remove food and water sources.

  3. Call your pest provider the same day. Share the inspection notes.

  4. Remove dead pests from traps and the building, so they do not pile up or draw more pests.

  5. Seal gaps and fix leaks that let pests in or help them live.

  6. Write down what you did, with dates. Take photos.

  7. Ask your provider for a written report.

Is a pest problem serious?

It can be. The Kansas Food Code says an imminent health hazard calls for immediate correction or stopping operations. Ask the inspector what applies to you.

How do you get ready for a follow-up?

  • Keep your service reports and notes in one place

  • Walk the kitchen and storerooms with the same checklist each week

  • Check drains, door seals, and dumpsters

  • Make sure managers know what was found and what you fixed

Quick Answers

Can I fix the problem myself?

You can fix conditions like clutter, leaks, and spills. For live pests, call a professional. Household sprays are not a good fit for a food business.

Who should I call first?

Call your pest provider the same day, and share the inspection notes.

Where can I find the Kansas rules?

The Kansas Department of Agriculture posts the Kansas Food Code on its Food Safety and Lodging pages.
