Restaurant Pest Prevention Checklist: Daily to Monthly
Pests love routine gaps. A short checklist closes them. This one pulls from UF/IFAS Extension, Oregon State Extension, and the CDC. Print it and adjust it for your kitchen.
What should you do every day?
Wipe up spills and food debris right away
Cover prepared food and put it away
Take food trash out at close, and use sturdy liners
Check drains for standing water or buildup
Close dumpster lids and slide doors
Let mops and brushes dry, and store them off the floor
What should you do every week?
Scrub floors wall to wall, and under equipment
Check storerooms for chewed boxes and droppings
Break down cardboard and clear it out
Check sticky monitors, and date any new ones
Look under sinks and around drains for leaks
Clean drains with an enzyme-based cleaner
What should you do every month?
Check door seals and sweeps, and screens on windows you open
Walk the outside for gaps where lines and pipes enter
Clean ice machine and fridge drip lines and trays
Check that any bait stations are covered and tamper-resistant
Read your pest provider's report, and act on any note
Update your pest control binder
Who should own the list?
Pick one manager per shift. Put the list where staff can see it. Tell your pest provider about anything odd you see between visits.
